Many of us are now drinking alcohol over the recommended number of units of alcohol. Drinking more than the recommended 14 units of alcohol per week can have a harmful effect on our health. Cutting down on your alcohol intake can reduce your risk of stroke, heart disease, liver disease and some cancers.
At Southampton Healthy Living we will support anyone who access our services to do a free alcohol self check which will help you to understand what you drink and set some goals to help you reduce your alcohol intake.
Here are some ideas for sensible drinking:
- Keep track of your drinking so that you know how many units you have drunk
- Chose drinks with a lower alcohol content (ABV)
- Have at least two drink free days a week
- Swap your alcoholic drinks for soft drinks, a glass of water or a cup of tea or coffee.
