E-Cigarettes (Vaping)

Southampton Healthy Living is an E-cigarette friendly service.  We recognise that for many people E-cigarettes are a great way of cutting back or stopping smoking tobacco altogether.

Recent research has shown that E-cigarettes (or vapes) are used by about 20% of the population, with these users being made up mostly of smokers or ex-smokers. Public Health England have stated that E-cigarettes are around 95% less harmful than normal cigarettes and therefore can have a positive health impact on those who choose E-cigarettes over smoking tobacco.

Our team supports the use of E-cigarettes as an aid to quitting and, in some cases, they can be used along with a nicotine replacement product.

Since there are currently no E-cigarettes available on the market that are registered as a medical aid to support quitting we are not able to supply these as part of our normal support but we are delivering a pilot scheme which can give you access to E-cigarettes. For more information see our E-cig Pilot page.

Our trained practitioners can support you in making the switch to E-cigarettes and advise you on where to go to get further support on the right E-cigarette for you if that is how you plan to quit.

We are currently not able to support people who only use E-cigarettes to stop using these, but if you are concerned about your use of an E-cigarette, please contact us to talk through your issues. We will be happy to help.
